The B-Sort is designed to give you a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationship. It consists of 104 short statements, most of which will be relevant to your experience. Doing the B-Sort involves sorting the statements according to how you think and feel about your relationship right now. Most people find that simply sorting the statements is surprisingly helpful. In addition, your B-Sort profile will generate detailed personalized results giving you important feedback.
How does the B-Sort work? The B-Sort is derived from a theory of how people resolve inner conflicts in order to reach good quality decisions. When parts of the self are opposed to each other inner conflict is created. The two parts of self that are often in conflict with each other can be referred to as the "Head" and the "Heart". The "Head" part of self represents the standards, values and principles that the person holds, whereas the wants, needs and feelings of the person are represented by the "Heart". The B-Sort helps people reconcile the differences between their "Head" and their "Heart".
How was the B-Sort developed? The B-Sort for Intimate Relationships developed out of a research study that focused on how individuals resolve their inner conflicts. The B-Sort has been used successfully for many years in a print media format. Recently it has been specifically adapted into an interactive self-help software tool.
